DGMO stands for Director General of Military Operations. In the Indian Army, it is a staff appointment at Army Headquarters in New Delhi, held by a Lieutenant General. The DGMO heads the Directorate General of Military Operations, which monitors operations, plans and the situation on the borders, and advises the Chief of the Army Staff.

In May 2025, after the military exchanges that followed Operation Sindoor, the Pakistani DGMO contacted the Indian DGMO and the two sides agreed to stop firing and military action.
These talks are short, factual and kept away from politics. They are different from foreign ministry talks, which discuss broader issues.
India and China Use a Different Channel
After the 2020 Galwan clash, India and China held rounds of talks between Corps Commanders and later at other military levels, and set up the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs. The DGMO hotline is specific to the India-Pakistan border.
