EEPROM and Flash
Electrically erasable without removing the chip. EEPROM rewrites single bytes, while flash memory rewrites blocks and is what modern devices use for firmware and phone storage.
ROM Versus RAM
RAM is volatile. Its contents vanish when the power goes, and it is read and written constantly while programs run.
RAM holds whatever apps you have open right now, while ROM keeps the firmware and fixed data that must survive a shutdown. An analogy: RAM is your desk, holding today's papers, and ROM is the shelf where the instruction manual lives.
That is why a machine can be slow with too little RAM, but it cannot make up for it by adding more ROM.
